Blimey, it’s been a while. I can’t work out whether time has flown by, or has been passing incredibly slowly… Somehow, it's as if 2020 has been going on forever, yet feels like it was only May a couple of weeks ago. Strange and unprecedented times, indeed; as the supermarket ads on TV seem very keen to remind us (as if an ongoing global pandemic had somehow managed to escape our attention until now). I hope everyone is keeping safe and well through this uncertain and unsettling period.
With everything that’s been going on, trying to stay sane in insane times, my normal publishing schedule has been somewhat thrown off-kilter. Not the worst thing to happen this year, not by a long shot, but still. Especially with comic cons and social gatherings no larger than half the average capacity of the 190 bus to West Brompton off the table, I’ve not really been able to plan releases around any particular events.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom. At least, I certainly hope not. Because coming soon - 23rd of September, quite specifically - the next book in the Sam Hain series, Careful What You Wish For, is due to be released on Kindle and paperback! You can read more about the book, and the preorder link, just below. Currently, only the Kindle version is available to preorder, with the paperback launching on the day itself.
While my usual tight schedule has been decidedly more open-ended, I’ve been rethinking, reworking, rewriting, and driving myself to despair and stress-induced insomnia with excessive editing. But I like to think it’s all been worthwhile, especially with this story being the longest instalment of the series thus far (it comes in at just about ⅓ of the entirety of Volume 1. No, I don’t know how either).
And I hope you will enjoy it too!
Careful What You Wish For
Strange things are afoot in Highbury and Islington… A husband in hospital with serious injuries. Another missing, seemingly vanished without a trace. An antique vase, allegedly cursed.
When Deirdre Roberts recounts the unsettling events she has experienced, Sam Hain and Alice Carroll find themselves embarking on a new curious case. However, as things begin to take a turn for the inexplicable and more bizarre situations start to mysteriously manifest, it appears that something more than a curse is at work. Their investigation soon becomes a desperate bid to put a stop to the magickal force behind it all, before it can cause any more chaos and misfortune.
In the fourth book of Volume II in the Sam Hain – Occult Detective series, our intrepid investigators have to be careful what they wish for, because it might just come true…
Careful What You Wish For is released on 23rd September on Kindle and in paperback.
Unfortunately, I won't be personally signing any copies of the book just yet, but if you do buy one of the paperbacks and want it signed in the future, I'll be happy to give your copy a scribble when events are no longer a dangerous and potentially pathogenic environment.
I hope you and your loved ones are keeping well. And I look forward to seeing you again at an event in the hopefully not too distant future, when 2020 is but a story we tell to scare children. The kind of story that would give them nightmares of Boris Johnson shaking their hands, and Dominic Cummings driving them to Barnard Castle for an eye test.
Stay safe, stay healthy, wash your hands, wear a mask, don’t cough on each other or go around licking door handles. And avoid being around too many people like the plague because, well, that’s kind of the case at the moment.
